We all love getting gift cards because then we can pick what we like but what happens when the store you have the card for will no longer honor it or the store itself is out of business? You lose your money.

Best advice in these times is: Watch those store money cards and gift cards.. and credit vouchers!

My new policy for this past year was to spend them as soon as I got them as you may forget about them, some have expiration dates, charges for every month not used, etc.

Now a new challenge: stores closing down or stores in financial trouble that may close down in the future.

Take note: The stores below have informed the Security Exchange of closing plans between October 2008 and January 2009.

Check your wallets, old birthday cards, etc for gift cards to spend NOW- the holidays with their sales are a great time to get more bang for your buck.

Take particular notice of those stores that are shutting down ALL stores or all REMAINING STORES= out of business completely.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. (copy and forward this link)

As Twilight fans know, the world premiere of the movie took place this week in Westwood, CA. Here is the latest on what the good looking vampires and friends were wearing for their big night. Some of the ladies wore clothes, jewelry and bags and shoes on loan from some of the hottest designers and weren’t shy about admitting it, stating that these types of clothes were not readily available from their own wardrobes and had a great time doing so. Thanks to InStyle for some photos and quotes from the stars.

Robert Pattison (who plays cute vampire Edward Cullen) and Kristen Stewart (Bella, his girlfriend) were among Twilights’ stars who worked the red carpet at the movie’s world premiere in Westwood on Wednedsay night greeted by thousands of screaming fans.

Robert looked casual, slightly rumpled and a little “Johnny Depp” in this monochrome suit/shirt/tie from Marc Jacobs.

Kristen wearing a Balenciaga dress said (according to InStyle) “You end up at these things and you’re never wearing your own clothes.” Stewart, who accessorized with a clutch and jewelry from Chanel and classic Christian Louboutin pumps, said “The fact that I can borrow [all of this] for a little while is fun!”

*********************

Nikki Reed (Rosalie), known previously for her role in the “Lords of Dogtown” reportedly worked the red carpet like a seasoned pro. Again from InStyle: “Nothing is mine. I don’t do [dress-up] very often, especially not like this,” said Reed, who sparkled in a beaded Marchesa cocktail dress, Rene Caovilla pumps, Neil Lane diamonds and a Kotur bag “that weighs 5,000 pounds!”

********************

Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) complemented her Ina Soltani satin bustier dress with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Kotur clutch and jewelry from Neil Lane. “It’s a dream. It’s like a fairy tale,” the stylish starlet told reporters on the red carpet.

********************

Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) in a strapless Farah Angsana dress, Neil Lane diamonds and a clutch and shoes from Stuart Weitzman. “I knew they’d be passionate but I didn’t know they’d be sleeping on sidewalks!” Lefevre exclaimed as she surveyed the crowd.
********************

“[The character] is kind of hot and kind of sexy. That was fun,” said Elizabeth Reaser, who plays the role of vampire matriarch Esme Cullen. On the red carpet, Reaser showed off her real-life sex appeal in a belted frock from British label Burberry Prorsum, accessorized with a Kotur clutch and a Le Vian ring.
********************

“Tracy Reese, Jimmy Choos, and Neil Lane jewels,” recited 90210 star Jennie Garth when asked about her outfit. Garth showed up to support husband Peter Facinelli—who plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the flick—and declare herself a “Twilight mom.”

Everyone seems to have an opinion of the dress, love it or hate it.

Michelle Obama, whose style has been described as sophisticated yet down to earth and sassy, caused a stir when she appeared onstage on the election night Chicago rally.

Mrs. Obama chose a black cardigan over a scoop-neck black sheath with splashes of red in the upper and lower half separated by a crisscross sash at the hips that comes straight off the spring 2009 runway collection of Narciso Rodriguez, one of the most critically acclaimed of New York Fashion Week. (Just a note: Rodriguez is the designer of the wedding dress that Carolyn Bessette wore when she got married to JFK, Jr. in the mid-90s.)

Reportedly a few tweaks were made to it to turn it from a sexy cocktail dress to a “First Lady” type dress. Reportedly the bodice was lengthened and Mrs. Obama layered that black cardigan on top. Also it appears that the sheer, short hemline seen on the runway was altered for the Obama version. Julie Gilhart, fashion director of New York’s Barneys clothing store, told the NYTimes,

“That dress was unpretentious, it said, Be who you are - don’t let someone else tell you how to be.”’

Her style seems to have gained notice internationally.

The UK Times Online describes Michelle Obama as a ‘new type of First Lady’, a woman who isn’t afraid to break conventional rules but steps boldly into the spotlight with confidence, a down-to-earth demeanor and a fearless fashion sense that makes her stand apart in many ways from former President’s wives.

The Italian Daily La Stampa dubbed the dress “the look of victory and said that the black symbolized mourning for the President-elects’ grandmother, who died on the eve of the election, while the red was for passion.”

Carola Long of the Independent in London said Michelle Obama’s fashion sense was a far cry from the traditional first lady look “reminiscent of the uptight Bree from Desperate Housewives”.

Michelle Obama’s fashion sense, which spans from Narciso Rodriguez & Maria Pinto to White House/Black Market and J. Crew, should be good for the fashion economy.

Pinto says that due to Obama’s public appearances in her designs her retail orders are up 45%!

She can be extremely casual or very glamourous as shown on the campaign trail.

Obama’s visit to The View had her in a Donna Ricco sleeveless $148.00 off-the-rack tank dress from White House/Black Market that flew off the racks and sold out in many locations.

The NY Times said “At the least, it promises four lively years of fashion-watching at the White House,” said the New York Times. I agree.

Here’s an interesting story from Glamour Magazine’s blog “Slaves to Fashion” about getting the most out of your wardrobe with all the craziness in the economy and the need to save money where you can. The best part is you don’t have to spend any of your hard earned cash to do this.

VIP Tips on How to Get a Whole New Wardrobe…Without Spending a Dime!

By Suze Yalof Schwartz

With our current economic situation, and hearing the word “recession” every other minute, I decided I needed to chill on my spending, BIG TIME. With that, I’ve been looking for a way to inexpensively rework my wardrobe and yesterday, I enlisted help from my friend and talented celebrity stylist, Inge Fonteyne. She has worked with some of the best in the business—from Catherine Zeta Jones to Sarah Jessica Parker. While she was helping me out how to make the most of what I already have, she revealed some of her favorite tricks–here’s a few I think you’ll love!

1. Shop your closet.
Take absolutely everything out of your closet, put it on a rolling rack (or a shower rod!) and turn your bedroom into a store-like space. (Except in this one, everything–should–fit you!). Line up your shoes, bags, and belts on your floor. Look over everything carefully, as you would when shopping, and if you like something, keep it. If you don’t, it doesn’t go back in the closet.

2. Don’t keep clothes just because you feel sorry for them.
My closet is filled with pieces that sadly, I love, but never wear. It is those pieces that end up clouding my view of the great stuff, and, unfortunately for them, it’s time to say bye-bye. Think of it this way: When going on vacation, you only end up packing things you absolutely love. Wouldn’t you like your whole closet to be like that?

3. Find your own most-flattering length and tailor, tailor, tailor.
I’m short, so usually, anything below the knee that doesn’t hit the floor makes me look even shorter. I ended up making a huge “to be hemmed” pile and went directly to the tailor. Not only will you look fantastic, but everything that’s been sitting in your closet because it didn’t fit right, is now brand new and ready to wear!

4. Edit your jewelry.
Dump your jewelry (yes, all of it) out of its boxes onto the floor. You’re eyes will be opened to so many pieces that you’ve been hiding from yourself! Edit, and start piling it on!

5. Sometimes it takes a fresh eye to get you out of a style rut.
Yes, I know, not everyone has a celebrity-stylist friend like Inge. But, everyone has at least one friend with great style! So, ask your stylish pal to come over, and help you put together outfits using what’s in your closet (also a great excuse to get together!). I guarantee she’ll show you combinations you never thought of before. In my case, Inge had me belting everything, layering full blouses under my shift dresses, and adding textured tights and ankle boots to transform something ho-hum into something amazing!
